Alexandra Glew

Alexandra Glew is a mixed media artist working in textiles and paper.

Since graduating from Leeds Art and Design College in 2007, Alexandra has explored a range of processes and materials as part of her ongoing creative practice, and now also teaches a range of visual arts students on Higher Education and Further Education courses.

Following completion of an MA in Textiles Practices in 2021, Alexandra’s practice started to focus on drawing as research, and connections that can be made between art and walks in nature. Inspired by the local, natural landscape around Holmfirth, Alexandra considers personal experiences in nature, and this drives her abstract mixed media practice, with a focus on line, shape and texture; Each piece communicating personal messages of practice as research, and mindful connections made.

The work in this collection explores drawing and the combining of materials to create textural sustainable pieces. Connecting recycled, found and repurposed papers and fabrics to produce unique visual representations of experiences had in the beautiful local hills, meadows and woodlands around Holmfirth.
