Annette Dancer – Artist Blog

We are very excited to introduce you to Annette Dancer, one of the artists who will be showcasing their work at featured@ fair trader from September 1st to October 15th 2022.

Annette came late to ceramics after a wide and varied career in nothing very exciting.

A life-changing stroke in 2014 led to retirement and a need to re-invent herself. Working with a malleable medium like clay afforded her the freedom to indulge her imagination without any expectations of perfection. (“A hand with a mind of its own gives a whole new meaning to throwing pots.”)

The results are quirky, imaginative pieces handmade in her tiny cottage kitchen where utensils double as carving tools. Each piece is a triumph of determination over disability, not to mention a demonstration of the versatility of the garlic press and potato peeler.

Born in Sheffield, with a daughter and granddaughter, Annette has been settled happily in the Holme Valley for 15 years.

Annette has written and illustrated several children’s books since her stroke. She is a member of North Light Potters, Armitage Bridge, Huddersfield. Profits from her work go towards stroke research.
