An Evening with Ryad Alsous
June 22 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
£10.00 – £15.00
AN EVENING WITH RYAD ALSOUS at Fair Trader on 22 June 2023 at 19:00.
Come and join us at the Fair Trader in Holmfirth for a ‘Learning from the Bees’ talk by Ryad Alsous. A chance to meet the real-life inspiration for ‘Mustafa’ from The Beekeeper of Aleppo book and drama. There will be honey tasting on offer too!
Ryad Alsous first came to Fair Trader in May 2018 for the ‘TASTE OF HONEY’ event, sharing his story of teaching refugees and job-seekers to build hives and keep bees. This was a fantastic event, and we’re excited to have him back at Fair Trader where he will be selling his honey for the first time.
About Ryad Alsous:
Born in Aleppo, Ryad is the real-life inspiration for the character ‘Mustafa’ in Christy Lefteri’s award-winning book and play “The Beekeeper of Aleppo’. He was a Professor of Agriculture at Damascus University, where he had several hundred hives. Due to the Syrian war, Ryad and his wife Hanan were forced to flee their hometown, joining family who had already settled in Huddersfield.
He founded the BUZZ project in Marsden, starting with one hive (donated by a lady bee-keeper) to now having 80 local hives. Ryad believes we have much to learn from the way bees work together and support each other. He has a passion for our Yorkshire bees, who not only go to work when the temperatures drop, but also when it rains!
