An Evening with Ryad Alsous
Time & Place
About The Event
Learn all about Ryad’s campaign to save Yorkshire’s indigenous Black Bees and craft your very own skincare product using beeswax, organic oils and lanolin, together with Ryad’s own essential oils
Participants please bring one or two small jars – 30gm or similar to hotel-issue small jam pots – to take home your creation. You will learn how to emulsify the ingredients to create a natural, nourishing moisturiser that will feed and hydrate your skin – or that you can give as a very special gift.
A respected academic, Ryad was Professor of Agriculture at the University of Damascus. He had several hundred hives and an outstanding reputation for research in this field. He also produced a range of skincare products. Ryad and his wife Hanan fled the violence in Syria to join family already settled in Huddersfield. Daughter Razan, a microbiologist, is also a renowned maker of award-winning Yorkshire Dama Cheese. Passionate about preserving Yorkshire’s Black Bees, Ryad started the Buzz Project with refugees and job seekers, building apiaries from recycled materials.
Entry by pre-paid ticket only. Cost: £15 for members, £17.50 for non members. Ticket price Includes the costs of all ingredients and also refreshments. Surplus from the event will be donated to Ryad’s project.
