Atlantic Ceramics – Artist Blog
We are very excited to introduce you to Katherine Greenwell of Atlantic Ceramics, one of the artists who will be showcasing their work at featured@ fair trader for the next few months.
When I picked up some clay in 1995, after a long break, it felt like a homecoming - I knew that it was just the right medium for me and I took a chance, veering away from being a qualified community artist to set off on the road to becoming a professional potter.
After being introduced to clay at school, my initial work focussed largely on making very fine pinch pots which I continue to enjoy making. I went on to work as a tile decorator for several years and then established Atlantic Ceramics in 2014.
I use clay to express myself and I bring my interest in maps, migration, the seaside, geology, the environment and social justice to bear in my consequently rather varied ceramic work.
We’re so lucky to have our Holmfirth Fair Trader Shop here in the heart of our community. Fair Trade chimes with my environmental principles, sense of responsibility and world outlook so I leaped at the chance to exhibit here. I am delighted to be taking part in this winter exhibition alongside such talented fellow artists.
