Join the Fair Trader and HRC Family Nature Trail and Quiz

Updated: Apr 5, 2021

We at Fair Trader have teamed up again with River Holme Connections to bring you a fun, family-friendly and educational-for-all-ages activity that has been planned for this Easter half-term (5th–11th April). All you need is a pen or pencil and a scrap of paper. Have some fun and enjoy the beautiful River Holme and its residential wildlife.

The Holmfirth-based Fair Trader and RHC Family Nature Trail and Quiz consists of a selection of 12 local wildlife images randomly fixed within the trail. Hidden in the information within each photo is an easy wildlife question (the clue to each answer is in the information on the photo). Question 12 is located in Fair Trader main window display. Answer all the questions and post your answers through the letterbox at Fair Trader in the centre of Holmfirth. Don't forget your contact details!

The quiz is short and fun to do, giving children and adults a chance to learn about some of our most beautiful and striking local wildlife and how our habits affect their lives. The trail passes through the Sands area of the park. Get the kids out for some fresh air and admire our little section of the River Holme.

See map below for the route. You can right-click or press-and-hold to download (depending on platform).

The trail finishes at the Old Tollhouse, which houses Holmfirth's Fair Trader shop. In the shop window you will see our beautiful birds by local artists Gail Dooley and Mick Kirkby-Geddes. Some of them will be well hidden. See if you can spot all of our 15 birds in the window!

Once you have completed your answer, post it through the shop's letterbox with your name and contact details. The winner will be chosen at random.

To win some extra goodies, please take a photo of you and/or your family outside Fair Trader, post it on social media and tag us in it.

The prize consists of lots of sustainable and fairly-traded products including a bird feeder, a birdbox, a Fair Trader voucher to spend, and some maps and leaflets for you and your family to encourage wildlife into your garden and to get everyone engaging with nature.
