Volunteers extraordinaire – recycling for blood cancer research

For several years now, Fair Trader has been collecting aluminium trays, foil etc that our members and customers bring into the shop. This waste is then collected by Bloodwise volunteer Valerie Ackroyd and her colleagues in the Huddersfield and Holme Valley area and sold to recycling companies who melt it down for re-use.
The money raised goes towards the tremendous work done by this charity. There are over 100 kinds of blood cancer, which is the third biggest cancer killer ahead of breast and prostate cancer.
Valerie has been fundraising as a volunteer for the charity for over 40 years whilst working and bringing up a family, in which time the Honley fundraising team have raised an incredible £500,000.
We are so grateful for what they do and hope, with your support, we can increase the amount we collect for them in the years to come.
