Volunteer

By volunteering at Fair Trader, you will be helping families around the world. No two volunteers are the same! Some volunteer at the same time weekly or fortnightly; some do their role at home, as and when they can; some help at events.

We need people who are helpful and friendly, keen to share skills and learn new ones, are reliable and trustworthy, and happy to be part of a team.

Anyone aged 16 years and over is welcome to apply to become a volunteer (although we may take from 14 under certain circumstances such as work experience or DoE. We appreciate your time and commitment and in return we offer opportunities to:

  • Develop new skills and confidence
  • Gain valuable work experience and references for employment
  • Help members of your community
  • Influence decision making for Fair Trader
  • Make new friends
  • Plan and deliver activities in Fair Trader
  • Share your knowledge and help others

Megan – Volunteer

“I have been a volunteer here for 18 months now. In this time I have gone from full-time education into full-time work as an apprentice.

Being a volunteer has helped me with my confidence and has enabled me to move into the next phase of my life. It just means I now have to restrain myself whenever I come in, as I now have money to spend on all the lovely things in the shop!”

Vivienne – Volunteer

“It is such a pleasure to immerse myself in this environment. Being surrounded by ethically-sourced and beautifully-displayed goods and then being able to sell them to customers too – I love it!”

Shelagh – Volunteer

“At the end of the shift you have worked with friendly colleagues and met some interesting people, and can go home knowing that today you have helped improve the lives of people less fortunate than yourself.”
