Von Allen: Heartfelt Dogs

Von Allen creates her unique Heartfelt Dogs using needle-felting. She has always had a passion for creativity. As a child she spent many happy hours making clothes for her toys, using the Blue Peter Book of Teddy Clothes as a guide and inspiration. Her mother fully expected her to become a Blue Peter presenter as she was able to produce something out of nothing. She was also fascinated by puppets and stop-motion animations such as Hector’s House, Pogles Wood and Noggin the Nog.

Von Allen graduated from Huddersfield University in 1984 and has worked in the arts ever since, in both the performing and visual arts fields. She retrained as a Bookbinder, but then discovered the art of needle felting and never looked back. Her Heartfelt Dogs are inspired by the ever-changing moods of her own dog Barney. She describes him as being able to change his personality according to what he thinks it might get him

Each of Von Allen’s Heartfelt Dogs is unique and individual. They are needle felted from 100% wool with glass eyes. Their minute clothes are painstakingly made by hand, even the tiny little knitted jumpers. They are supplemented with carefully selected additions from the likes of Paul, Ken and Sindy dolls.
