Citizens’ assemblies are a form of democratic process being used in Yorkshire, the UK, and around the world to make decisions on complex issues.
They have led to changes in the law on abortion and same-sex marriage in Ireland, and are doing similar on assisted dying in Jersey. They are sometimes suggested as a way to make decisions about our society’s response to climate change. What are they, where are they happening, and what might they be used for in the future?
