Paul Brennan – Artist Blog

Introducing Paul Brennan, one of the artists who will be showcasing their work at featured@ fair trader.

Paul originally trained and worked as a Textile Designer going on to teach art and design in secondary schools, he then trained art teachers, eventually becoming Director of Education for some of the largest Local Authorities in the country….a fulfilling activity but one that kept him away from both the easel and the loom.

“Home from Holme”

Paul has a studio in Holmfirth and his recent work reflects the rich townscape of Yorkshire villages alongside a love of Italy and its architecture. In his drawing, painting and photography he focuses on his love of buildings and in particular those of the Holme Valley and the Veneto. He believes that good, loved, buildings are born from the land through the careful craftsmanship of the people that live and work in them. Much like the people that live in them, these buildings develop over time, becoming richer more interesting places full of memories and stories.

Paul has dedicated most of his professional life to supporting disadvantaged students something that continues to be important, in particular addressing the impact of poverty on children’s life chances. Thus, he is an enthusiastic supporter of the work of Holmfirth Fair Trader and is delighted to have been invited to show a few of his most recent pieces in this joint exhibition.
